Citizen marketing - YOU are the message February 21st, 2007
I came across this post on the Quirk Web PR 2.0+ blog with this interview with Ben McConnell (of Church of the Customer fame) about citizen marketing. The message is pretty compelling - YOU and the people around you are the message that companies really need to listen to. The message is transmitted through the various new media elements (blogs, podcasts, wikis and more) and it is repeated over and over by the echo chamber the Web is.
Ben wrote about citizen marketing in his and his co-author’s, Jackie Huba, book titled "Citizen Marketing" in which they talk about how you and I are the people spreading the word about products and services we both enjoy using and the products and services we don’t. Moreover, our voices are loud and are being heard and added to by people who also feel strongly about those products and services.
In our second episode of chilipod, I spoke about the importance of listening to the echo chamber and engaging in conversations with customers. This interview really underscores the importance of doing that.
